Pine-Cone Vacations has mixed recent reviews, with significant concerns regarding misrepresented amenities and booking issues. While some guests appreciate the helpful management and the property's rustic charm, recent experiences highlight problems with room temperature, availability, and attempts to charge for pre-existing damages. Older reviews suggest a generally pleasant experience, but recent feedback is cause for caution.

This place was uninhabitable. My stay at The Pine Cone in Gaylord, Michigan was a complete failure. I arrived at 8:00 PM to a room with a thermostat reading 89 degrees. I quickly discovered that the A/C was not working, and a window unit in the room was also non-functional. When I contacted the property manager, she offered to bring fans and suggested I open the bathroom window. You could not open the windows due to the window dressings, and I had to stand on the toilet to get the bathroom window open. As a solo female traveler, I would not have felt safe sleeping with the windows open anyway. Even with some air circulation, the room remained stifling. By 11pm, the thermostat went down to 86 degrees. It was easily 20 degrees cooler outside. I spent three hours in the room before deciding to leave at 11:00 PM, having paid $100 for a room that was unusable. This was an unacceptable experience. This really sucks because I was exhausted, got home at 3am, and was unable to explore the area like I had hoped.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!! I booked room 7 through VRBO for Thursday to Sunday. I received a confirmation for it as well, which said check in after 4:00 PM. We arrived at 7:30 PM and the sign on the door said closed and gave a number to call after hours which was 3 PM. I called the number it went straight to voicemail and the mailbox was full. I texted the number as well no response. There were a couple gentlemen staying at the end which was room 7 (the room I reserved) they had the same contact number as us. They had been in that room for a week. I contacted VRBO they tried to contact the property manager and got voicemail which the box was full so you couldn't leave a message. VRBO offered us to rent another room at a different hotel through their sites and they would reimburse us the difference. So I would have sat in a different hotel room with no money left because I had to pay for it up front, then they would reimburse us the difference. So we cancelled for full reimbursement and drove 3 hours back home. The Motel is run down and it wouldn't surprise me if it had some sort of bug infestation. So thank you to the property manager for not taking care of your business so I didn't get bed bugs. The worst customer service/business handling I have ever seen. Buyer beware you get what you pay for.

Great golf trip with 12. The Pine Cone team did an excellent job of setting us up with accommodations, golf, and dinner suggestions. Also worked last minute to help me with a major change from a golf resort package that was not very accommodating. They definitely helped make it all work out.

We checked in around 10pm and left at about 8 the next morning. Room was clean, I liked the log cabin like room. Ownership was easy to deal with. Shower and bathroom was nice. Playground was a bit dated, but still functional. I would stay there for a few nights.

It was cute and rustic and fine for what we needed- a place to sleep for a few hours and shower in the morning before continuing on our way. However, the WiFi was awful and I had no data reception there either and I wanted to watch something streaming to relax before bed. Overall, it was fine for what we needed but wouldn't be my first choice for doing something with the kids or an extended stay. However, if you want some solitude without any distractions from your regular life, this would be perfect for you. The manager is really nice and helpful, so I did appreciate that.

This is going to be a mixed review, with some highlights but plenty of warnings for the false advertising and money-grabbing tactics of the management. There was a group of 16 of us on a golf trip staying three nights. First off, the golf in Michigan is amazing, great value and such beautiful scenery. However this review is strictly for the accommodations part of it. The house was advertised as having sleeping space for 12-16 people. Unfortunately it did not, it only had sleeping for 12 people. 4 people from our group had to purchase their own air mattress and sleep on the floor. The accommodation site promised a full functioning futon that could sleep two people. However the futon was broken and wasn't able to pull out and therefore we could only use it as a couch. We were told there was a hot tub on the property. That was untrue. There was only a 2 person jaccuzzi in the master ensuite. We were told that the cleaning staff would come in to clean every morning. However, no one showed up even once in the 3 days we were there. We did leave some ping pong balls out on the driveway and deck as they blew away when we were playing in the garage. The ping pong table they advertised looked like it was working but it was broken and disassembled when we arrived, so we did our best to repair it and use it. So on that end we were at fault for not cleaning up our ping pong balls. The actual set up of the house was beautiful, it had a good kitchen space, great dining space, great family room and a large deck. Upon check out (actually a week later) I received a call from the manager. I was told that there were some damages that needed repair. A futon that was broken, a broken light fixture and a broken lacrosse stick. When I questioned my friends who slept in that area they all told me that the light fixture was not functional when they attempted to turn it on, the lacrosse stick was already broken and in the corner of the room and the futon did not open out. What is misleading is that the staff is very friendly and accommodating while you are booking but none of the stuff that is said over the phone is ever recorded in writing on their end. So after check out they have no recollection of the conversations they had with you and what they promised you. What I found particularly upsetting was the coercion used by the management in making us pay for repairs to items we did not break. When the lady called me a week after we had checked out and told me that we had to pay $214 for damages, she refused to get off the phone until I had given her my credit card information. My advice, therefore, is to make sure that all assurances by the management are put in writing, that you conduct an inspection, take pictures and inventory as soon as you enter one of their properties and bring your concerns to the management right away. I do not like being charged for damages and repairs that I know were not our fault.
