This Tru by Hilton in Gaylord, Michigan, receives mixed reviews, primarily centered around unexpected parking fees and cleanliness concerns. Guests appreciate the modern design, convenient location, and helpful staff, particularly regarding breakfast service. However, several reviewers have reported issues with room cleanliness, microwave/coffee availability, and unresponsive management.

The hotel was fine, easy access to I-75 and nearby restaurants. The biggie was this hidden $5.55 parking fee. Never disclosed, never discussed, just a surprise on the bill. $5.55 for parking...in Gaylord. Really? Hope the $5.55 was worth it, because that kind of nickel and diming will keep us from staying here again.

My experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing, largely due to the absurd new hidden fees implemented in May 2026. Upon checkout, I discovered I had been charged an additional $5 for self-parking, for a basic surface parking lot that has historically been free for guests. This property is located off the interstate in rural Michigan, not in a crowded urban or downtown area where charging for parking would even begin to make sense. What makes this even worse is the complete lack of transparency. There was no signage in the parking lot, no notice at the front desk, and no reasonable disclosure of this fee during check-in. The lot is not operated by a third-party company, so this is clearly nothing more than a blatant cash grab by management. Nickel-and-diming guests over something as basic as parking is cheap, tacky, and incredibly off-putting. Charging full service style fees at an economy hotel is laughable. If management is this desperate to squeeze an extra $5 out of guests, it says a lot about how this property is being run. I will not be returning unless this ridiculous parking charge is eliminated.

Newer hotel, so Its very nice. Pool table and games in the lobby. Nice gym, good breakfast. Rooms are small, they have a mini but no microwave. My only complain is that they do not have a laundry facility.

We use this place for snowmobiling in the winter. Lots of room for our trailer and close access to trails. Rooms are nice enough for price paid and morning breakfast is pretty good. They were about 45 minutes late opening breakfast each day but didn't matter too much. Friendly accommodating staff.

Hilton is really going downhill. I've been a member for years and have always tried to stay at Hilton brand hotels. Problem is they suck! I get better service at Holiday Inn! I booked a room and even paid extra only to get to the hotel and be told I couldn't have that room or floor. This is ridiculous that they dont care. I'm to the point where I will be canceling my card and going elsewhere. I've tried to reach out to Hilton and I get no response and chats conveniently get disconnected. Horrible service throughout the company.

The handicap accessible rooms water pressure was so low I couldn't rinse out my hair and the blackout curtains didn't work. I couldn't get light in the room. Ended up checking out a day early. Also, i'm a diamond member meaning I've stayed over 30 days in a hilton hotel last year and I haven't checked out early because of an issue, this is a first.

Room was clean and spacious and so was the bathroom. I don't feel like I have to make room for the luggage and walking path so that's very nice ? Room service comes every other day so for 2nd day you'd have to ask for fresh towels. Service did come promptly ? The floor (4th) was quiet and beds were comfortable. USB-embedded alarm clock was convenient. There was a 2-person bench in addition to the desk chair so it's nice. The reception area was modern and wide open with pool table and board games for anyone to use ? There was a gym and indoor pool. They looked nice but we didn't get to use them. Breakfast was served everyday with decent selections. Pancakes, eggs and sausages, oatmeal, bagels/bread, milk and juices ? ? The only shortfall for us was the lack of microwave in the room. We had to go back down to the reception area and there was one microwave to use. We assumed it was in the room but it wasn't. The area was pretty lively, coffee shop, Walgreens, fast food... Lots of options.

Nice rooms, comfortable beds, good breakfast, nice showers. Front desk guy Xander was very friendly n even went out of his way to get breakfast going an hour early for us since we had to hit the road. We'll definitely be back

No microwave, no coffee, coffee in the lobby is cold after 4, which tells me they likely don't clean the machines. As for the comments from management under other reviews about "modern minimalism," minimalism is about forgoing excess for the sake of simplicity and functionality. Why is there a wall length bench and a 40 inch TV screen but no way to heat r reheat food if you're trying to apply modern minimalism? Truth is you didn't want to pay for the appliances. I despise a lie more than anything, Just be upfront about it being about cost cutting.

Not bad, just okay. The bathroom in my room wasn't all that clean. The shower had engrained dirt and the floor had foot prints. The sink drain has visible mold. The room was very compact but I didn't mind since it was just me and a short stay. The staff members I had interacted with are not friendly or welcoming. My digital key and mobile check-in plan didn't work because nothing was approved on their end. The location was super confusing at night - I wasn't able to turn left into the main drive (one way) and bypassed the entrance near the Biggby sign. When I attempted to turnaround, I ended up taking the highway on ramp after the light.
